Do you think its true that wearing your hair a shade lighter than natural color makes you look younger?

A French beauty consultant said this in an interview in a beauty magazine I was reading. What do you think? I have fair skin and dark brown hair - I know the contrast can look harsh, esp. in winter when I don’t have the natural reddish highlights from the sun. I don’t think it makes me look older, though, even when I wear my hair darker than normal - I’m always told I look young for my age (25).

If I dye my hair any darker, though, my mom says she thinks it will look witchy.
Though, I’d like a change, and going lighter is more damaging and costlier to maintain. I’m thinking of putting a dark blonde shade on it which makes it a lighter brown color. Do you think it’s true that going a bit lighter than your natural color makes you look younger? I don’t exactly want to look younger than my age at this point, but I don’t want to look older either!
